Nov 29, 2017 - Winter is the fastest warming season in most of the country generally from the Front Range of the Rockies to the East Coast. The greatest warming along the northern states emphasizes a general rule ofclimate change — cold areas and seasons warm faster than areas and seasons that are already warm.www.climatecentral.org/...

Back in mid-February, Lubbock saw the hottest February temperature since it's records began. We wrote up a short summary about it that you can read HERE. Since then, the warm days kept piling up through the end of the month - resulting the hottest February on record at Lubbock. The chart below shows the daily temperature data for the month www.weather.gov/...

Could February 2018 become the warmest February on record for the Lowcountry?
Record February warmth in the East
From Boston to Washington, the warmth is carving records. Boston’s overnight low of 50 degrees looks to be the warmest overnight low in the month of February — any February. On Wednesday, the D.C. area could hit 80 degrees, which would be the earliest 80-degree high on record for the capital. Other cities that will probably set new February records for warm overnight lows include:
From thundersleet to record heat, the weather is extreme across the Lower 48
The Lower 48 is split into two seasons this week. It’s so warm in the East, February records are being broken and flowers are starting to bud. People are walking around in T-shirts. There’s talk of breaking out the shorts Wednesday. In the West, it is decidedly winter — temperatures are running as much as 40 degrees below normal, San Francisco had overnight lows in the 30s and it snowed in Los Angeles.READ MORE washingtonpost.com/...

Early Warning Signs of Global Warming:Heat Waves
Worldwide temperature measurements, corrected for instrumental and measurement errors that result from such factors as changing instruments or urbanization, indicate that global mean annual surface temperatures have increased about 0.3 to 0.6°C during the last 150 years (Nicholls et al., 1996). Since 1975, the increase of the 5-year mean temperature is about 0.5°C - a rate that is faster than for any previous period of equal length in the instrumental record (NASA, 1999). Global surface temperatures in 1998 were the warmest since reliable instrumental measurements began, and seven of the ten warmest years occurred in the 1990s. Temperature reconstructions using proxy climate records such as tree rings, fossil pollen, corals and ice cores and borehole measurements indicate that the 20th century warming is unusual relative to the last 400 to 600 years (e.g., Mann et al., 1998, Overpeck et al., 1997; Pollack et al., 1998).www.ucsusa.org/...
